The National Library of the Republic of Mauritius is mandated by law to acquire, process and preserve for posterity the documentary heritage of the nation. The legal deposit regulations ensures that the National Library receives from local printers and producers, free of charge six copies of each document published or item produced in the country. Through this mechanism, the National Library is building the most comprehensive collection of Mauritiana documents, that is documents related to Mauritius, written by Mauritian authors or by foreign authors but pertaining to Mauritius.
