Universities in Mauritius

Mauritius has universities: the University of Mauritius and the University of Technology. The University of Mauritius has recently declared a policy of opening itself more to foreign students. Information on the courses offered at the university is available on its website at: www.uom.ac.mu The medium of instruction is usually English. The Government of Mauritius has declared 2004 the Year of Tertiary Education. The number of students following tertiary level courses has increased from 14,300 in 2000 to 17,200 in 2003. 9500 of these were in State funded institutions. The University of Mauritius and the University of Technology are the main universities in Mauritius and are both State funded.
